The General Director of the State Archives, Mr Sławomir Radoń passed away
We deeply regret to inform you of the passing of Mr Sławomir Radoń, the General Director of the State Archives, on 15 February 2011 following a long illness. He was a Doctor of Humanities and the editor-in-chief of the scientific periodical „Krakowski Rocznik Archiwalny”.
Prominent historian, model civil servant, honest citizen, he devoted his professional life to the state archives, persistently moving up the career ladder. For many years, he acted as the Director of the State Archives in Kraków. He was a member of the Scientific Board of the Archives of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) and Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (PAU). Since 1999, he was a member of the Council of the Institute of National Remembrance, which he chaired twice (2000-2001 and 2004-2005). In 1999, he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. He became a member of the Order's Chapter on 15 January 2009.
Doctor Sławomir Radon undertook a number of valuable initiatives for the network of state archives in Poland and was responsible for establishing the course of action for the archives for the years to come. His ideas were a source of inspiration for those whom he managed. He assumed the post of the General Director of the State Archives following the appointment by the Prime Minister on 26 September 2006.
He was 54 years old. He leaves behind a wife and three children.
